New Virtual Private Servers based on KVM virtualization (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) has been announced by web hosting provider MilesWeb Internet Services. The company hosts the new KVM virtual machines in their data center located in India. With the launch of the new KVM based VPS's, the customers of MilesWeb can now get low cost VPS hosting services with a choice of virtualization platform between KVM and OpenVZ.
MilesWeb offers five standard KVM plans with managed and self-managed options. The entry level plan called M-KVM 512 with managed option priced at $20/month, features KVM-based virtual server with 512 MB RAM, 256 MB vSwap, 30 GB Space, 500 GB monthly bandwidth with SolusVM VPS automation control panel. The entry level plan in self-managed option with same specifications is priced at $15/month. KVM is a virtualization method that allows the virtual machine manager to be embedded into the Operating System kernel. KVM based Virtual Servers benefit a lot from excellent disk and network I/O performance
Unlike the OpenVZ based VPS, on the KVM based Virtual Private Servers the server memory (RAM) and hard disk space are not "shared" with other virtual machines on the underlying host server system. KVM ensures that resources allocated on any VPS cannot be assigned to another virtual server which turns down the possibility of overselling.
In the same press release, MilesWeb also announced it has slashed the pricing for existing managed OpenVZ plans. Prices are reduced with a view to attract more users to use their managed VPS hosting service and offer superior infrastructure at an affordable cost.
