Track DNS

NOTE: Track DNS is a cPanel feature available for VPS and Dedicated Server hosting packages ONLY.

A tool that you can use for checking the DNS records associated with a domain name is called as Track DNS. This is similar to looking through a phonebook of contacts list for a phone number and the other details associated with it.

With this feature, you can check and confirm if your domain name is still connected to the IP address of the intended server or not. It is easy to use when you experience issues with your website as it helps you to find the possible causes.

Below are the steps to use the Track DNS feature:

1. Log in to the cPanel account using one of the two URLs https://yourdomain.com:2083/ (Mention yourdomain.com with the main domain name connected to your hosting.) or https://servernumber.serveradd.com:2083/ (Mention the actual server number assigned to your hosting in place of servernumber.)

2. Go to the Advanced panel and click on the Track DNS icon.

3. Enter a domain name to look up in the field and click on the Look Up button.

4. You will see a complete report of your domain name’s DNS displayed under the Zone Information, as shown below:

Trace Route

Trace Route will give you information on the route between your computer, or any device that you are logged into, and the server on which your domain name is hosted. In this, you will get the information of the number of servers and what servers your data must/will pass through to get to your website.

For using the Trace Route feature, click on the Go Back link below the Zone Information display. Then, mention the domain name in Enter a domain to look up field provided under Track DNS and click on the Trace button under Trace Route.

The results will be similar to Track DNS. Check the results below:

That’s it! You have now learnt to use Track DNS and Trace Route feature in cPanel.
