Prestashop is a popular shopping cart application that is used by many eCommerce website owners worldwide. This article will provide you information on two most important aspects of adding products to Prestashop – Add Category and Add Product.
Add Category:
Below mentioned are steps for creating a new category of products for your online store:
- Login to Prestashop admin area
- Go to Catalog > Categories
- Click on the ‘Add New Category’ button
On the next page, you will have to enter the information about your new category. It is important to note that if your application has multiple languages, you must click on the language icon for adding descriptions for all the languages that you have installed. You can change the language through ‘crop down’ option next to the desired field. Once you have entered all the necessary information, click on the ‘Save’ button and the new category will be created and added.
Add Product:
Now that you have created a category, you can add new products to the category. Follow the steps mentioned below to add products:
- Login to Prestashop admin area
- Go to Catalog > Products
- Click on the ‘NEW PRODUCT’ button that is in blue color and present in the upper right corner
On the next page, you will have to enter important points about the product like name, category, price, image, quantity etc. If your new product doesn’t fit into the existing product categories, you can even create a new category right away through the ‘Create a Category’ option present in the bottom right corner. Once you have filled all the details, click on the ‘Save’ button.

Once you click on save and enable the product, it will become available for your visitors to view and purchase. You can enable the product by clicking on the red cross present under the ‘Status’ menu. Clicking on this option will change the status of the product to ‘Active’ and you will see a green tick next to the product instead of a red cross.
If you wish to change the status of the product in bulk, select the products and utilize the ‘Bulk Actions’ drop down menu to make the changes.
